when I look at a landscape I see it like everyone else but I FEEL it too. I feel it turning rolling blowing moving in and out there is a gut feeling that I want to throw at it, a gut hunger. My heart yearns to make landscapes more abstract Working outdoors, I will turn the pictures a couple of times. The marks I make as I turn it break up the picture plane. There is a stopping point, when I settle on placement. Today was remarkable. .....I did five of these in a row. It works in space better yes, I am happier with it. This is the kind of landscape I have always wanted to do in my life, but I didn't know how to do it. The pretty pictures I had gridded off back when I had my van and would set up to paint in fields for hours at a time ........they were o.k. I can't wait to handle paint the way Soutine did. joe tonnar february 28, 2008 All charcoals and color pastels are done on 18 x 24 Utrecht 70 lb. acid free sketch paper.
