painting, and
painting. I went out often with
my field gear, doing outdoor
studies in
preparation for a trip to
at Bitter Creek
outside Clarkdale, I worked with smaller canvas
panels.
That experience, along with the photos I took, created a book-mark for
me.
Upon return I began the real work, my homework, which involved problems
to
solve. To acquaint myself with rocks and dirt, I turned to the works of
Corot,
and did a
number of studies. Confidence grew and I attempted rendering
black and
white
photos of mine with the colors Corot might have used.
That exercise has helped
produce much of this exhibit. The tall walls of an
old stone quarry and its
trees have given me material to work from, within
driving
distance of my studio
and home in North Central Missouri.
Every
painter chooses problems to describe with paint.
What
problems did I choose to tackle and how
did I solve them?
What
details did I leave out? There are details
to keep and details
not to
paint. I am very
satisfied with
these works. What colors keep showing
up in my
work? I encourage you to drop me a line at colbornpond@netscape.net
and tell
me which paintings you enjoyed. Thank you.
